It focuses primarily on road bridges, emphasizing the basis of their conception and the fundamentals that must be considered to assure structural safety and serviceability, as well as highlighting the necessary design checks. The principles are extended in later chapters to railway bridges as well as bridges for pedestrians and cyclists. Particular attention is paid to consideration of the dynamic performance.
Contents : 1-Introduction. 2-Bridge description. 3-History of steel and composite bridges. 4-Basis for conceptual design. 5-Structural forms for bridges. 6-Construction details. 7-Fabrication and erection of the steel structure. 8-Slabs of composite bridges. 9-Basis of design. 10-Loads and actions. 11-Internal moments and forces in beam bridges. 12-Steel beams. 13-Composite beams. 14-Cross bracing and plan bracing. 15-Overall stability. 16-Railway bridges. 17-Bridges for pedestriams and cyclists. 18-Arch bridges. 19-Example of a composite bridge.Steel bridges : conceptual and structural design of steel and steel-concrete composite bridges [texte imprimé] / Jean-Paul Lebet, Auteur ; Manfred A. Titre : The art of structures : introduction to the functioning of structures in architecture Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Aurelio Muttoni ; Stephen Piccolo, Traducteur Mention d'édition : 1st ed Editeur : Lausanne : EPFL press Année de publication : 2011 Autre Editeur : Oxford : Routledge Importance : 269 p. Présentation : ill. Format : 24 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-415-61029-2 Note générale : Bibliogr. p. 251-253. Index; EPFL = Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne. Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Constructions, Théorie des;Design architectural;Structural design Résumé : This book describes the complete panorama of supporting structures and their function by describing how loads are sustained and transmitted to the ground. With a minimum of mathematics, the reader is guided through the analysis of some of the world's most famous designs and structures from a civil-engineering perspective. An intuitive approach is taken - the basics of equilibrium analysis are explained by visualizing the internal forces of specific structures with the aid of simple graphical tools. Ideal for anyone who needs an intuitive and practical approach to the design and appropriate sizing of load-bearing structures.
Contents : Introduction - Forces and equilibrium, internal forces, strength and stiffness - Cables - Cable networks, tents, and membranes - Arches - Vaults, domes and shells - Arch-cables - Trusses - Spacetrusses - Beams - Frames - Wall beams and deep walls - Ribbed slabs, beam grids, and slabs - Stability of elements in compression. The art of structures : introduction to the functioning of structures in architecture [texte imprimé] / Aurelio Muttoni ; Stephen Piccolo, Traducteur . - 1st ed . - Lausanne : EPFL press : Oxford : Routledge, 2011 . - 269 p. : ill. ; 24 cm.
